In the present era of the 21st century, where everything around us is processed, packaged, or produced with the help of modern techniques involving several chemicals and preservatives, it is nearly impossible to stay immune from the deadly diseases that are common around us. The chronic diseases & syndromes around us, like Cancer, Diabetes, etc., can be prevented by taking precautionary steps and making relevant changes in our daily lifestyle. Even the risk of diseases like Thyroid, which is caused due to the dimension of hereditary, can be minimized to a very large extent by transforming your lifestyle and shifting towards the path of healthy regime & activities.
Thyroid, according to a recent study, is prevalent in more than 20 million individuals in a country like the USA. A proportion of this remains undiagnosed and comes under the knowledge only when the disease reaches an intensive level. It is highly recommended from the global experts that the people who have relatives with the same disease must get themselves a diagnosis and regular checkup. Here are some of the basic and most prescribed ideas that can help prevent thyroid:
It has been proved that smokers are more prone to be affected by this disease. The toxins present in the cigarette can harm the thyroid gland that is present in our neck. Particles like Thiocyanate are known for blocking the production of thyroid hormone and decrease the TSH level. However, it is not easy to quit smoking in one go, but it is not impossible.
A thyroid checkup involves scrutinizing the thyroid gland that is present in our neck. It checks for the possibility of swelling and the creation of lumps in the neck. In case the report of the test is not as desired, it is advisable to reach out to the endocrinologist doctor as quickly as possible.
It is advisable for people facing even the mild symptoms of Thyroid to abstain from any kind of excessive exercise. Exercises like long runs, distant cycling, etc., must be avoided by the thyroid patient.
The majority of the consumables around us are processed and packaged. Even the water that we usually drink is packed in plastic. Therefore, the preservatives and chemicals used in the production of these items must be avoided. By detoxing the surrounding, we mean that everything around us must be checked before use, and we must shift towards organic items. We must change our consumption patterns and ultimately avoid the harmful chemicals, preservatives, unsaturated sugars, dyes, excess corn syrup, etc.
To counter the problems related to thyroid, one must take care of the diet intake and must be aware of the nutrient value of each food item that is consumed.
Iodine: It plays a significant role in producing thyroid hormone. It can prove out to be the best remedy for patients suffering from Hypothyroidism. Iodine is present in the common salt that we use in cooking.
Selenium: Try to intake Selenium-rich foods like eggs, nuts, tuna, etc. Selenium is widely known for its antioxidant properties and can be consumed in a decent quantity.
Zinc: Zinc, however, is consumed by an average person in a proportionate quantity through regular foods only, and there is hardly any need of consuming zinc from an external source. Foods such as whole grains, meat, lentils, seeds, nuts, dairy, eggs, etc. contain zinc.
These majorly include the Goitrogens like soy items, veggies like cabbage, cauliflower, etc. These items can be harmful to people suffering from Hypothyroidism. It must be noted that processed and packaged food should be avoided at any cost in order to stay away from a disease like a thyroid.
The thyroid is one of the most chronic diseases and, if worsened, can lead to a situation like Thyroid Cancer. When the problem of the thyroid is not detected during the early stages or isn’t taken seriously, the chances of developing cancer become high. Another common reason for thyroid cancer can be genetic changes or the mutation period. In the process of mutation, the number of cells gets multiplied and, in several cases, forms a tumor. Thyroid Cancer is of many types and is called by different names like Papillary, Follicular, Anaplastic, Medullary, etc. We need not get into further technicalities related to thyroid, but we must pledge to prevent this disease to a maximum extent.
Therefore, the patient must go for therapy in case the sign of cancer is visible. Early detection and diagnosis play vital roles in preventing the diseases like thyroid. Apart from adhering to the Do’s and Don’ts, we must make sure that we go for timely health checkups and making sure about developing healthy habits as well as eliminating evils from our surroundings like excessive liquor, cigarette smoking, Unsaturated food items, etc.
